Nominated for: BEST Winery
Owner/winemaker Larry Lehmbecker is making ridiculously good wines at his Lake Chelan, Wash., facility. He brings home a ton of awards each year, none more than for this Cabernet Franc.
Vin du Lac has had an amazing streak with its Cabernet Francs. Starting with the 2003 vintage, which was named "Top Wine of the Year" in WinePress Northwest's annual "Best of the Best" Platinum wine judging, Larry has produced vintage after vintage of highly awarded wines. Both the 2004 and 2005 vintages were multiple Gold Medal winners, and were awarded the elite "Platinum" medal in the "Best of the Best" competition.
Larry frets every year whether the new vintage will stand up to his prior record of achievement.
Fortunately, if there was any doubt about whether the quality of the newly released 2006 Barrel Select Cabernet Franc would match the prior vintages, it has been now erased. The wine already knocked down a Gold medal at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition, and topped all other Cabernet Francs in the field at the prestigious Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition. The most exciting news was that our 2006 Barrel Select Cabernet Franc was awarded a Gold Medal, and more importantly, designation as “Best in Class.”
This is a smaller winery but they make great wine. My GF and I love smaller wineries where you get to meet the wine maker and understand their style, their why and why nots, etc... The maker and staff here are friendly, knowledgeable and very gracious hosts. If you're out in the Chelan area, don't miss the opportunity to look up this little gem.

Great wine, great surrounding, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, generouse with tasters, down to earth approach to appreciating wine (absolutely no snootiness you sometimes encounter at wineries) and great wine (ok, again).
