Voting Home / Uptown China Restaurant
Nominated for: BEST Chinese
Nestled on a corner near the base of Queen Anne Avenue, Uptown China is little more than a stone's throw from Seattle Center. The restaurant's wine red awning acts as beacon of hospitality. People come from near and far to partake in the savory Chinese cuisine, a combination of Hunan, Szechwan and a touch of Cantonese, with luscious tangy sauces that invigorate the natural flavors of the quality ingredients. It's a casual atmosphere, whether diners choose to eat in the cozy bar area or the family-friendly dining room with its welcoming bamboo yellow walls and mint green booths. Over the years, the restaurant has built an eclectic clientele of all ages and backgrounds, a delightful mix of actors, dancers and musicians, athletes and sports fans, professionals and business moguls--and neighbors galore. A hands-on entrepreneur with a warm, smiling countenance and lots of style, owner Yu-Mei Wang likes to get to know her patrons, so the comfortable lounge becomes a living room. Every evening, she makes rounds, sitting down for a cozy chat with her customers. Regulars meet and greet each other like old friends. In fact, locals often describe the lounge area as the Chinese "Cheers." A big-screen television hangs above the small corner bar housing the congenial bartenders, while banquettes wrap around the outside walls and a coterie of small tables fill out the room. It's a relaxing ambience where you can dine, unwind over a refreshing cocktail or glass of wine, meet new friends and join in spontaneous conversation.
Thanks to an inviting selection of daily specials at Uptown China, there's a bustling lunch business as well as a lively crush before and after games, concerts and events at Key Arena and Seattle Center. But the gracious management and staff are never too busy to make you feel at home. They also offer take-out, delivery and catering services. They will even set up a special area in the restaurant for your celebration.

In a town that should have better Chinese food, Uptown wins because of their pot stickers.
