Voting Home / Summit Public House
Nominated for: BEST Neighborhood Bar
The pub, originally known as the Summit Tavern, was opened in 1998 by two brothers, Matt and Dan Toepke. Their focus was on serving Washington-born ales, wine, and high-quality imported beers from Belgium, England, and Ireland; thus the spirit of the Summit, a relaxed and comfortable neighborhood spot off the beaten path on Capitol Hill, was born. Back then, the tavern was a mere 900 square feet with a small roof-covered patio. In 2003, the bar was remodeled, with the space increasing to 1,600 square feet and the addition of a full bar, pool table, and large patio. It also got a new name honoring its position as the neighborhood's home away from home in the European tradition: the Summit Public House. On March 17, 2005, the Summit Public House was sold to Josh “Big J” Janicek and Samuel Munguia. As your publicans, our mission is to preserve the home-away-from-home feeling, offering quality beers and ciders from the Northwest and Europe in a very chill atmosphere.
True example of a neighborhood bar. Love it here when we have the chance to get there.
