Holiday Treasure Chest

Nominated for: BEST Favorite Local Charity

Holiday Treasure Chest 12510 33RD ave NE Seattle WA (206) 365-1590

Let me share with you a story of pirates who give rather than take. Yes, it is possible and let me tell you how…..In 1996, the Holiday Treasure Chest program began its life with a few pirates seeing a need. They saw that a local charity that provided food/toy baskets for our communities less fortunate was forced to close their doors. That situation left far too many families without a Christmas because they were unable to find assistance. This just felt wrong and something had to be done. The Foundation Executive Director heard the call, and rose to the challenge. He rallied the Seafair Pirates and that is how The Holiday Treasure Chest was born. With the help of local businesses and “Pirate Santa’s” throughout the community, tons of food & gifts were distributed to local area food banks and service-providing charities as well as individual families.

While the Seafair Pirates have mainly been known as a Parade group, a few years ago some of the Pirates, who were born and raised in Seattle, decided to go beyond the parades and give back to the community in a bigger way. They saw that the Holiday Treasure Chest was a great program but we could do more. They realized they needed a change to do that. So they created the Seafair Pirates Charity Foundation. They we granted unrestricted use of the name by the Ale & Quail Society. Most Foundation Members currently are or were past members of the Seafair Pirates.

We now are a completely different organization with a different board of Directors. Unlike the Seafair Pirates, we are a Non Profit group recognized by The IRS with Tax exempt 501© 3 Status. Our focus is not being rambunctious or attending parades, our focus is on giving back to the community. Rest assured that no money from The Foundation will be used to support the private activities of the Seattle Seafair Pirates or the Parades they attend. The charity was created to make sure that the public would have a separate and distinct organization to support the good works that our Pirates Santa’s do.

At our core will always remain the spark that got us started, The Holiday Treasure Chest. For over 17 years, the Holiday Treasure Chest has been providing a complete holiday meal with all the trimmings along with enough extra food to provide for at least a few days following Christmas. In addition, we provide at least 2-3 age & gender appropriate (brand new & unopened) gift for each child in the family.

Last year, with the assistance of local businesses such as yours, we distributed over 16 tons of food and nearly 18,500 gifts to local service-providing charities throughout the Puget Sound region. This is in addition to over 500 individual families that the Pirates Foundation directly sponsored with the above-mentioned baskets.

Thank you for your interest and remember yes there is a Santa Claus and he may be dressed as a Pirate.
