Built by George MacGuire in 1914, the Roanoke Inn is the oldest business on Mercer Island. With its warm atmosphere, the Inn has always been a welcome, fun, community-gathering place for good friends to meet or a place to meet new friends while enjoying a meal and a drink or two. During the Inn's early years, Mercer Island was a remote, lush, dairy-farming community and a prime deer-hunting territory. Located one block away from the old ferry dock that served Bellevue, Kirkland and Leschi, the Roanoke quickly became a popular weekend getaway for Seattleites and tourists. The Inn's rich history - complete with its early rumors of dancing girls, Old West gambling games and drinking during Prohibition - helped to earn the Roanoke Inn its position as a Washington State Historical Landmark, registered since 1976. The Reeck family purchased the Roanoke Inn in 1941 and has continued to run the neighborhood inn with its quaint charm, good food and drink, and welcoming manner.
