Plaka Estiatorio

Category: New Restaurant (19 listings) Mediterranean (32 listings)

Plaka, the ancient district of Athens, was a gathering place for free thinkers who roamed the marble lined streets below the great walls of the Acropolis. The labyrinth of the streets have given way to a renaissance of wafting scents of grilled meats, fresh seafood, as well as roasted garden vegetables. The harmony of scents mingling with the faint sounds of the bouzoukis dancing through amber hues and the chatter of locals and tourists who share a glass of retsina and an array of Greek wines have graced this district for nearly a century. Plaka is the expression of our family experience, cultivating recipes, and sharing authentic Greek food.

Seattle is full of restaurants with unique, tasty food, but there are very few where you feel like family. Plaka has wonderful, unique dishes that I am never afraid to try. I had one of the cousins Okra dishes the other night and it was fantastic. I know, okra and I are not usually friends, but this was terrific. The service is warm and welcoming. One of my favorite restaurants!

Family Style authentic Greek resturant. Outstanding food at a reasonable price. Great Owner adds to the family feel as he engages with the diners.

I eat here several times a week for lunch and dinner. For lunch I would recommend Plaka's truly authentic gyros. It is by far the most authentic in Seattle, made with actual slices of meat. For dinner, I love to get a variety of their small plates. The marithes (smelt) are great. The tzatziki is the best (can't beat greek yogurt)! They also roast lamb which is spectacular. If into wine, I would recommend Rapsani. For dessert, they bake different desserts, so ask if they have made bougatsa for the day.

This place is truly amazing. You can tell that the food is prepared with fresh and quality ingredients. My wife and I tried Plaka for the first time on a Tuesday a few weeks ago. We love lamb, but not every place knows how to prepare and cook it well. Plaka makes outstanding lamb! I tried the lamb souvlaki and my wife had the paithakia (rack of lamb). We will definitely return to try the spring lamb and the yiouvetsi with lamb!

The food seems authentic, is fresh and delicious. We especially like the avgolemeno soup and the smelts. The service is very personal. The atmosphere, including old family photographs, is very interesting.

Go for the little plates(meza)! Fabulous flavors, foxy wait staff (they can't help it, they're GREEK! ) If you're lucky, Mama will come out and talk to you. Unique menu. Ambience is simple but food is sensuous, so it's good for a date.
