He stands out through his academic excellence. During his last board examination for certification for people who specialize in the plastic surgery of the face and neck, Dr. Young scored in the 100th percentile on the written exam. This meant that he scored the number one score in the whole nation. He is also double board certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery. He graduated near the top of his class in medical school (Tulane Medical School) receiving Alpha Omega Alpha honors. For his first 2 years in medical school (the main academic portion), he received the McGraw Hill Award for being one of the top 2 students in his class.

He is unique in his philanthropic activities. Dr. Young has travelled around the world, China and Vietnam, to participate in Medical Mission's. During these missions, Dr. Young lectures to foreign doctors in new and old techniques disseminating his knowledge. He educates these doctors during live procedures that are directly observed in the operating room and through video presentations to large lecture rooms. He also brings these philanthropic activities to his own state and cities. Every Last Wednesday of the month is reserved for Pro Bono cases for people who have suffered from domestic violence. He is a participant surgeon of the Face to Face organization. FACE TO FACE is the humanitarian arm of the Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS Foundation).
