Hurt by the “B” grade he gave for Seattle’s snow removal efforts last December, the loss of the Seattle SuperSonics and his support of a downtown tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct, it was still something of a surprise to see him come in third to two political newcomers in the August, 2009, primary.
