Fort Nisqually Living History Museum

Category: Museum (40 listings)

Fort Nisqually is a living history museum where volunteers and staff, in period clothing, demonstrate the crafts of the 19th century and engage visitors in historic dialogue during the Living History Days and other events throughout the year. While on a trading expedition down the Sound last Spring with 8 or 9 men, I applied 12 days of our time to the erecting of a store-house 15 by 20...This is all the semblance of a settlement there is at this moment: But little as it is, it possesses an advantage over all the other settlements we have made on the Coast.

A great place, with dedicated staff & volunteers, for the whole family to visit and learn a little something about the early history of what would eventually become Washington State.

Fort Nisqually is absolutely magical. It truly brings history to life. stop by at a special event, and you will step into another world! The sounds of fiddlers playing, the blacksmith hammering, and people trading fills your ears. You see ladies spinning, sipping at tea, and dancing. You see children playing with wooden hoops and rag dolls. You see people churning butter and cooking, and if you're not carefully, you might be wrangled in to completing some chores yourself!

Fort Nisqually is a must-see for anyone who happens to be in the Western Washington area. Take the whole family! Let history come to life!
