Fort Nisqually is a living history museum where volunteers and staff, in period clothing, demonstrate the crafts of the 19th century and engage visitors in historic dialogue during the Living History Days and other events throughout the year. While on a trading expedition down the Sound last Spring with 8 or 9 men, I applied 12 days of our time to the erecting of a store-house 15 by 20...This is all the semblance of a settlement there is at this moment: But little as it is, it possesses an advantage over all the other settlements we have made on the Coast.

Fort Nisqually is our favorite place to visit. The staff does such a great job -- they are very friendly and make learning about history a lot of fun.
Volunteers dressed in period costumes make history come alive with their knowledge and passion.
They provide a hands-on, kid-friendly, fun, educating and life enriching look at western Washington's history and native settlers.
Lots of activities, especially for children. You walk through the gates and really feel like you've stepped back in time.
Fort Nisqually has one of the best programs for high school students that i've ever been in. The people who volunteer there are amazing and really friendly. If you ever have questions about HBC or just about the Fort in general don't be afraid to ask. Don't forget Candlelight Tour this weekened!
Amazing place for kids to have fun while learning about history.
Just very interesting.
A great place to learn about the Hudson Bay Company and British History and how the people in 1832-1850 lived at the Fort. How trade and agriculture developed between Fort Vancouver Washington all the way to Canada. It is a living history museum because you participate and learn.
I have attended their Candlelight tour and it is an amazing event! Fort Nisqually is such a fun place.
Located in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, Fort Nisqually allows us to explore and discover our connections to the past. We all have connections; we just don't necessarily know about them. Great museum store, too!
Neat place, neat people. Its really exciting to experience history first hand.
Fort Nisqually Living History Museum has the best staff, volunteers and programs. It is the best living history museum in the west!
History come alive!
Living history, with lots of family activities. Great people who take the time to interact with visitors!
Fort Nisqually works year round to ensure an interesting program of activities for all ages, knowledge levels, and interest levels. It does this not only by varied programs, but by the number of volunteers attracted to the fort, enabling there to be many re-enacted events, bringing history to life in a way that would otherwise be impossible. All staff, whether paid or volunteers, are friendly and knowledgeable, and happy to share their excitement in a period of history that truly excites them. It truly deserves the title of Best of Western Washington!
One of the few truly historic sites left in Washington State.
Fort Nisqually is more than a static museum. You can touch, smell, feel, and interact with history. It's like stepping back in time a 150 and years.
Its a wonderful hands on history lession for the kids - where they can play games like kids did learn the dances the teens did and learn the jobs the adults did. Much better then reading it in a book or seeing a picture on a wall.
A wonderful place to visit and volunteer!
When you got to Fort Nisqually you learn about history and have fun too. Just a great place to go.
It's the friendly people telling a local story.
