Nominated for: BEST Museum
Fort Nisqually is a living history museum where volunteers and staff, in period clothing, demonstrate the crafts of the 19th century and engage visitors in historic dialogue during the Living History Days and other events throughout the year. While on a trading expedition down the Sound last Spring with 8 or 9 men, I applied 12 days of our time to the erecting of a store-house 15 by 20...This is all the semblance of a settlement there is at this moment: But little as it is, it possesses an advantage over all the other settlements we have made on the Coast.

Fort Nisqually is a true gem in Washington, where history comes alive in so many ways. I learn lots of things about our state's history every time I go - which is often. O take friends and family members with me, and it's always a fun and interesting visit every time!

So many volunteers make this place great. Hands on practical skills and the kids can roam free!
