I graduated with a BA. in Sociology, with a focus in Cultural Anthropology in 1991. My interest in cultures and medicine began with researching my thesis which involved indigenous populations of the Brazilian and Venezuelan rainforests. After graduation (and many ski towns later) I headed to massage school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was while in Santa Fe that I experienced acupuncture for the first time. Within a month, the symptoms for which I was receiving treatments were totally relieved. I packed up the car and headed back east to open a massage practice, and get the needed prerequisites for receiving a Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

I chose the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine in Seattle. I loved the fact this curriculum blended all of my interests in learning. I studied classical texts, herbs and the language from day one. This drew upon my BA in Anthropology. Clinic was available from the first day, which allowed for hands on and experiential learning. The school admits only 13 students (at the time I attended) which allowed for excellent teacher student contact. I believe SIOM offers a superior education.

Acupuncture has seen me through endometriosis, a car accident, competitive rowing, skiing injuries, anemia, and just plain old stress and fatigue. I hope to draw upon my experiences to aid all who comes through the door.
