Nominated for: BEST Local Bands
Seattle band Boxcar Rebellion makes serious rock n' roll, the kind of music America made before labels like post-punk, indie and alt-country, the kind of songs that make you wave down your bartender and order another whiskey neat. Their music is part swamp blues, part country, and a heaping handful of 70s rock. What makes the band truly unique is the diversity in styles of its two songwriters, Tyler Clark and Katherine Moore, who both take from the American canon created by artists like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, The Band, and Lynryd Skynyrd, and turn out songs, like two sides of the same coin, both related and completely different. Presented with husky, heartfelt vocals, these songs are strong enough to stand the test of time. Boxcar Rebellion has played a number of Seattle's great independent venues over the past two years- including The High Dive and The Mars Bar- and recently completed a self-titled EP of six songs recorded at the legendary London Bridge Studios. Its members combined can boast decades of experience, countless projects, tens of records, and hundreds of venues across the nation.
