There are literally thousands of soap manufacturers, so many in fact that the market has become saturated. This saturation has created the need for soap manufacturers to seek out less expensive ingredients and less time consuming methods of manufacturing in order to make profits. Their answer is Sodium laureth an lauryl sulfates, potassium hydroxide compounds, synthetic oils and other un-natural synthetic cleaning compounds.
The true soap making process, combining fats (Coconut, olive, palm, castor bean, macadamia nut...) with caustic potash (obtained from sea plants and other hardwood ashes) create natural glycerin. It was not long before soap manufacturers realized that the glycerin created from this natural process is a much more lucrative business than the soap itself. Salt was then added to the soap mixture causing the natural occurring glycerin to separate from the soap mixture, drained off and sold separately. After the glycerin was removed from the soap, a harsh, brittle substance remained that would then be grated into flakes and sold to soap manufacturers as soap flakes. These flakes are commonly used as laundry detergents, heavy duty degreasers and most commonly by the majority of bar soap manufacturers today. These soap flakes are very inexpensive and provide no benefits to the skin, they are simply fragrance and compacted into bars and sold as "Milled Soaps
