Nominated for: BEST Sports Team
The Bellingham Slam is a minor-league, professional basketball team founded in 2005. The team plays a spring schedule spanning from April to July as a member of the International Basketball League.
The team’s mission is to provide an affordable and exciting entertainment product for Whatcom County sports fans, while also helping to develop and advance the careers of elite post-collegiate athletes. Home games are played at Whatcom Pavilion in Bellingham, which provides an intimate setting for fans to watch the up-tempo, exciting brand of basketball for which the team has become known.
The Slam has never had a losing record in seven seasons, and captured league championships in 2008 and 2012. On the sideline, the Slam is coached by Rob Ridnour, father of NBA player Luke Ridnour. With general admission ticket prices ranging from $5 to $10, it is tough to beat the value of a Bellingham Slam game for an evening’s entertainment!
