Bellingham Lock & Safe

Bellingham Lock & Safe, a part of Security Solutions NW, locally owned for over 100 years. The history of Bellingham Lock & Safe and Security Solutions is synonymous with the history of Bellingham itself - both share recognizable names, landmarks, growth, and 100 year anniversaries! Bellingham Lock & Safe began in 1904 when Hugh Diehl and Charlie Stanbra started a bicycle and locksmith business. Not long after that, Hugh left the business to pursue Indian brand motorcycles and eventually the Ford dealership. Pollard retained control of the business for many years but eventually sold the locksmith portion of the business to a gentleman named Bus Charles. Bus ran the locksmith operation in a building in the 1300 block of Railroad Avenue until his death in the early 1950's. Four months later, Gus Newman moved to Bellingham to pick up the mantle. He was sole proprietor until present day owner Jim Vos joined him as partner in 1971. When Gus felt it was time to retire and move to Hawaii, his son-in-law Link Shadley took over his half of the business. Link and Jim expanded the business in the early '80's until Jim took complete responsibility for Bellingham Lock & Safe when Link left to pursue other work. Because of the continuing growth, Jim moved the business to its current location on North State Street. The 10,000 square foot facility today houses a family of over 30 employees. Over the last 100 years, the company has evolved to offer a full complement of security products and services including fire suppression, contract hardware, surveillance systems, access controls and alarm systems. Because of this growth, the new name Security Solutions was introduced to more accurately reflect this complete offering. Bellingham Lock & Safe will continue to provide superior lock and safe products and services, and through Security Solutions, address all security needs in Northwest Washington.
