Voting Home / Alexander Bishop and the Saints of Slumber
Nominated for: BEST Local Bands
Alexander Bishop has always been influenced by a multitude of different artists, and spent much of his musical life exploring those different musical paths within himself, and as well as out in the world. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, he fronted rock bands playing at Seattle venues and festivals around the Northwest. By sneaking into Blues clubs, Bishop learned how to develop the soul in his playing and singing.
In his college years, he gained recognition within the Seattle classical music scene when he was commissioned through the symphony to write a sonata for viola and piano as well as a string quartet. Zach Carstensen of The Gathering Note said of Bishop, “His melodies linger in the mind long after they have been played with remarkable stickiness.”
After four years of dedicated time at Cornish College of the Arts, with his focus on developing his voice as a composer, he decided it was time to put together a group that was the sum of all his influences.
Saints of Slumber was formed in the summer of 2010 with Andrew Nyte on drums, and later Britton Bangs on bass, with Bishop singing, composing and playing guitar. The band’s trademark is an undeniable chemistry, raw energy and stage presence, matched with haunting melodies, and harmonious chord progressions. The precision of classical music, matched with the intensity of the 70s rock bands, and topped off with the soul of the Blues is what makes up Saints of Slumber.
Hands down the best musicians in Seattle. Watch out Coldplay, there's a new sheriff in town!
